What we keep, and why.

Who we are

Distant Shore Trading Company Ltd. is a trading house based in Nassau, The Bahamas. We are responsible for the information you share through this website. Questions about this notice go to hello@distantshoretrading.com.

What we collect

Only what you send us. When you use the partnership or trade enquiry forms we receive your name, email address, the house, company or venue you represent, your country or island, your venue type, and your message. If you write to us directly, we receive your email and whatever it contains.

We do not use advertising or analytics cookies, and we do not track you across other sites. The site stores one small flag in your browser for the length of your visit, so the opening sequence does not replay each time you return to the page.

Trade accounts

Venues that apply through our trade desk give us the venue name, island, venue type, business licence number, delivery address, and a contact name, email and telephone number. Once an account is approved, we also keep the orders placed through it: products, quantities, prices, delivery dates and notes for our team, and the email address of the person who placed each order.

Signing in uses a one-time link sent by email; we hold no passwords. The trade desk sets only the cookies needed to keep you signed in, and remembers the contents of an unfinished order in your browser.

How we use it

To reply to your enquiry, to assess and pursue a potential partnership or trade account, to take, deliver and invoice orders, to report sales to the makers whose products you buy (as totals by product, never your contact details), and to keep a record of our correspondence with you. We do not sell your information, and we do not add you to a mailing list unless you ask us to.

Who handles it for us

The website is hosted by Vercel, which keeps short-lived technical logs such as IP addresses to run and secure the service. Trade accounts and orders are stored with Supabase, a database service. Enquiries, sign-in links and order emails are delivered by Resend, an email delivery service. Each may process data outside The Bahamas, under their own security and privacy commitments.

How long we keep it

Enquiries that do not lead to a working relationship are deleted within two years. Where we go on to work together, we keep account details, orders and correspondence for as long as the relationship lasts and as required for our legal and accounting obligations.

Your choices

You may ask to see the information we hold about you, to correct it, or to have it deleted, by writing to hello@distantshoretrading.com. We will reply within thirty days. This notice is written with the Data Protection (Privacy of Personal Information) Act of The Bahamas in mind; if you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you may also contact the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner.
